The Committee of Grenada Freedom Fighters Against Tyranny in Grenada [COGFFATG] titled "Communism in Grenada" and stamp dated 8 April 1980

Be mindfully aware that the charge for murder of Inspector Innocent Belmar by one named 'Budhlall' in this document has not been proven in a court of law and ole talk is that the person who shot Belmar was not associated with the PRG. Also be aware that everything you read is not gospel truth and the charges in this document need to be assessed along with other information. A later 6-page tract was issued by this group [CGFFATG] titled "The Grenada Horror Movie."

MORE NEWS ABOUT BISHOP AND HIS ILLEGAL COMMUNIST REGIME IN GRENADA
FROM CONCERNED GRENADIANS IN U.S.A. DEDICATED TO THEIR REMOVAL FROM POWER

COMMUNISM IN GRENADA

WITH

BISHOP AND HIS COMMUNIST NEW JEWEL GANG

WHAT IS COMMUNISM?

Briefly, Communism is a system established by Russia of advocating abolition of all human rights and freedoms and private property with the state providing work and subsistence for each member according to his capacity and needs. There is also a classical quote of what is Communism namely "You have two cows, the Government takes both of them and gives you milk".

Then after you are committed to Communism, if you do not agree with the policy, "Government takes both of them and shoots you."

Grenada has always been accustomed to the democratic form of government until Bishop and his gang violently seized power, and they are now imposing Communism on the people of Grenada.

SO GRENADIANS BEWARE OF COMMUNISM AND DO NOT FOOLED BY THE COMMUNISTS IN GRENADA. BRIEF SUMMARY OF OPPRESSIVE ACTS ALREADY TAKEN BY BISHOP'S COMMUNIST ILLEGAL REGIME IN GRENADA

In the exercise of unauthorised absolute power there are no limits and Bishop and his Communist New Jewel are already guilty of the following acts:

Terrorism (illegally and violently seizing power, and causing extreme fear among the people),

Treason (disloyalty to the sovereign in order to compel change of policy)

Murder (giving guns to untrained youths to kill themselves and paying others to kill)

Setting up missile bases all over Grenada with the help of Cuba, and putting guns everywhere in Grenada,

imprisonment of hundreds of people in Grenada without trial, including Ministers, Leaders of Opposition parties, Doctors, Lawyers, students, and cancellation of visiting rights of families and friends,

seizing of people's property (house, car, etc) after arrest and imprisonment,

seizure of the privately owned Cocoa Cola Factory, Evening Palace Club, other private homes, etc:

closing down the only non-governmental newspaper 'The Torchlight',

closing the courts,

revoking all recognized laws and substituting their own laws with twice yearly trial by tribunal comprising of people with no legal background,

serious violations of all human rights and freedoms,

prevention of people from leaving Grenada (scholarship holders and any one suspected of being a threat to the revolution),

tapping of all telephones in Grenada and censoring of all mails, etc entering and leaving Grenada,

importation of Cuban doctors and other personnel to take over jobs held by Grenadians,

sending people without passports for training in Cuba and bringing in other personnel from Cuba under the guise of exchange program,

detaining, searching and questioning and then imprisoning any one arriving in Grenada who is known or even suspected to be a family or friend of any member of Gairy's party or any one in custody.

Grenadians are sure getting the shivers and it's getting worse daily. The deprivation of all imaginable freedoms and human rights which the people of Grenada have to suffer now has not been seen in Grenada and any part of the Eastern Caribbean since the slavery emancipation proclamation. We shudder to think of this backward and detestable step taken by Grenadians against their country and we pray that the situation will soon be righted and Grenada will once more be faced with proud sons who can guide its destiny.

STATEMENTS BY CARIBBEAN PRESS, ETC

There is mounting concern in the Caribbean, U.S.A., Canada, Britain and elsewhere over the path down which Bishop and his Communist gang are taking Grenada and the violations of human rights and freedoms of the citizens of Grenada and the heat is now on to stop them before it is too late. Here are some statements against them:

Bishop is trying to replace the personal freedoms and democracy which we have always known in the English speaking Caribbean with Cuban-style dictatorship We see him as a Cuban 'hit man' ready to destroy the personal freedoms and the democracy which have provided the framework within which we have lived in this part of the world.

The signs in Grenada are unmistakable: Broken promises, deception and outright: lies, one of which being his contradictory reply in Toronto and Ottawa about his regime's differences with the Torchlight.

Fortunately he has now been exposed in Canada for what he is. The Canadian Minister of External Affairs, Flora Macdonald, has made it clear that her Government disapproves of these gross violations of human rights and the world press has joined in the public condemnation of the Grenada Government act of banditry of closing the Torchlight.

The man Bishop has been revealed as highly inconsistent and a liar who has deliberately fooled the Grenadian people about the path down which he intends to take them. After the revolution he complained about not getting help from other Governments to deal with the threat of Gairy sending mercenaries, hence the reason he had to turn to Cuba, but long before any Government could reasonably have been expected to respond a Cuban ship was tying up at St. George's harbour unloading arms and ammunition.

Their message is now very clear: control the press, kill public opinion, stifle dissent and eliminate opposition. If they are not removed, these and other Communist steps will follow in Grenada as surely as night follows day.

It is therefore heartening to note that Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago Governments have already come forward to condemn the Grenada Government. Likewise, Aubrey Fraser has not accepted their offer of a position on their Appeal Court and publicly condemned their action. The Caribbean churches, the international press, Human Rights groups, have all voiced their condemnation. And this groundswell must grow and must, if it becomes necessary, be translated into action to isolate Bishop and his Government, so that they will not be able to function.

Bishop and his gang play a rough game. They are totally corrupt and incompetent and apart from Guyana is one of the worst hated regime in the Caribbean.

Bishop and his gang have tasted power and do not want to go but their time is coming fast. The voice of the West Indian people must cry out loud for their removal and it must do so now.

Freedom is dead in Grenada and the sound of laughter continues to die in Grenada. Bishop is now mad with Trinidad for refusing to accept them and is now creating all kinds of imaginary coups, and jailing people like mad. He intends to harass the whole of Grenada.

People should remember the Bishops as a middle class group that hung out at the Richmond Hill Tennis Club where little people were debarred. He knew he could not identify with Grenadians but carried out the pretence in a bid to gain power. Now he distrusts every Grenadian.

Regretfully, Grenada is now saddled with Bishop because Gairy erred in taking the essential internal defence measures. However, Bishop's regime is not a government. It is rather a group with a vengeful young lawyer as its figurehead whose authority is on the wane and cannot be expected to last much longer.

Bishop should be removed from office. The Spice Island now smells and the opportunity he had has now been lost for ever. This bad tooth in the mouth of the Grenadian people will one day be pulled as Grenadians who cherish freedom do not wish to maintain Bishop's dictatorship and Communistic regime.

MORE ABOUT BISHOP AND HIS ILLEGAL REGIME

As Grenadians know, when Bishop and his New Jewel front line men were in opposition, they told their supporters that they could not accept Independence for Grenada and that if they got into power they would abolish the system of Ministerial Government and would rule by village councils headed by a Central Council and there would be no Prime Minister and Ministers. They said it was the most incompetent act of Gairy to seek Independence for poor Grenada but now they are hailing it as the best thing Gairy ever did as it has given them the opportunity which they wanted all long to rule, after seizing power, without any interference from Britain. They knew that if Grenada was not Independent a coup would have been useless as England would have stepped in right away, so in true Communist style they said anything, promised anything, organised demonstrations against Independence to get the people with them, knowing full well that Independence for Grenada was something they wanted to suit their purpose. How deceitful can they be!

Therefore Bishop's organised march against Independence in which his father was killed, when violence erupted, should haunt him for the rest of his life, knowing full well that if he was sincere, there would have been no demonstration and no death would have resulted.

So his cry of murder against the Gairy Government is just a sham, when it can now be said that he clandestinely caused his father's death and is therefore the guilty party.

There is always dishonour among thieves and it is no wonder therefore that there is an in-fighting between Bishop and Coard for the leadership. Bishop now likes the title Prime Minister and Coard feels that if he wouldn't change the title as promised, he should be the Prime Minister instead of Bishop. Mark our word one is going to assassinate the other for the position and we have learnt that attempts in that direction have already been made. Grenadians are now saying that they have had their choice between Gairy and Bishop and frankly they prefer Gairy. A change for the better would have been good but from the frying pan into the fire is something they cannot take.

It's a pity Grenadians allowed themselves to be fooled into accepting them when they knew from the outset they were Communists although they always denied it when questioned about it by the Government and Press. Their cover up of those responsible for Belmar's murder and their accusations against Belmar to show that his murder was justified until one of their front line men -Radix- confessed otherwise and one of their key supporters and paid killer - Budhlall - confessed that they hired him to do the job and refused to pay the price promised, should have had every one very suspicious of them.

Their chief weapon in their role is propaganda. It is the weapon of many a slimy dictator to destroy an innocent community. They are lies and half truths which appear to be the truth by sheer repetition and is dangerous medicine to the mind.

There is no law in Grenada except the ones they proclaim as the Peoples Revolutionary Laws. This means that they can do whatever they say is legal. Instead of being innocent until proven guilty, you are guilty as charged, not allowed to have a lawyer to represent you and you are tried by their own people who are not lawyers only twice a year. Bishop with his training as a lawyer to defend the rights and privileges of people should be ashamed of being a lawyer and so should the legal profession be of him.

They used the Torchlight to condemn the Gairy Government human rights etc - everyone remembers their cry and the pleadings of the Torchlight which caused. the Government to set up a Commission of Enquiry - but as soon as the paper raised its critical voice against their oppressive regime, they couldn't stand it and gave it the full weight of the revolution, as the saying goes.

The Bishop illegal regime in Grenada is branded as Public Enemy No 1 to all democratically minded citizens of Grenada and to the democratic countries and citizens of the Caribbean and elsewhere and every effort should be made by all to get rid of this enemy before it is too late.

The Opposition G.N.P. can no longer remain quiet and has hit out hard at the Communist New Jewel. They have accused it of breaking its promise of a free and just society and has advised them to take stock of its direction. To close down, the only free paper in Grenada casts doubts on all their protestations, when in opposition, about freedom of the press.

They have arrested and jailed Teddy Victor who was a co-founder of the Jewel Movement seven years ago because of his opposition to the direction they are going and their dishonest and treacherous manner.

They have arrested Winston Whyte, leader of the United People's Party, who joined with Herbert Blaize of the Grenada National Party and the Jewel to form the People's Alliance to fight Gairy in the 1976 Elections. The Alliance failed and now they have arrested Whyte at gun point on a framed charge of counter coup, seized his mini bus and sent soldiers to his wife's place of work and seized his other car which she used to get from place to place.

They have arrested Dr Japal and Dr Otway, Lawyer Defreitas, many police officers and others. They have now fired Val Francis, the Principal of the G.B.S.S., and they have fired another 33 policemen.

The Bishop regime is no longer a joke. It is a menace to society.

What the Bishop regime is doing is a clear disregard for democracy, law and order, and human rights and freedom. Despite their criminal act of hijacking Grenada, maybe they had a good thing going for them, but when they made the appalling mistake of changing direction from democracy to Communism and violating all human rights and freedoms of the citizens, they spelled their own destruction, which is now just around the corner.

WHAT PEOPLE FEAR IN GRENADA

When Bishop hijacked Grenada on the morning of March 13, he did not know what to do with the ball and muffed the game. Now he and his gang know that coup and revolution are frightening things.

Bishop's big nightmare is Eric Matthew Gairy and he fears the old pro will return to finish him off. He is so frightened that he sees an enemy behind every bush and he distrusts every Grenadian as a Gairyite.

Bishop has gone wild, making an utter fool of himself in Grenada's market place. He fears he will end up with a bullet in his back and before that he intends to harass the whole of Grenada. He has mounted a tiger which he cannot dismount now because he knows it will eat him raw. As the saying goes he has put a nail in his own coffin and has dug his own grave.

Bishop is so afraid that he is now looking for blood and he has actually said so. He claims that people in Grenada, his followers, are calling for executions, but it is feared that he is doing the bidding of Castro in this instance and make no mistake, if he does that, Grenada will hate Bishop and his entire family and supporters wherever they may be forever and they will all have to face the same fate sooner or later. Grenadians are all shivering in their shoes over this latest threat which if carried out will rouse the indignation of the Caribbean and elsewhere, and they will not stand by and allow him to execute people for his and Castro's own pleasure.

Already the injustices and wickedness done to Grenadians have caused a hatred to develop for Bishop, his gang and supporters, the like of which never before seen in the Caribbean, and which can be compared to the hatred shown by Iranians for the Shah. Grenadians will be longing for their revenge and when the time comes those responsible will wish they were no longer alive.

Grenadians are united by ties of blood and kinship and it is feared that the happenings in Grenada will develop into a bloodbath, since violence appears to be the only route by which there will be a change of Government in Grenada.

If the rape of democracy in Grenada is not stopped there is bound to be bitter violence and it is feared Grenada will be completely destroyed and will be nothing but a wasteland.

OUR APPEAL

We hope that all Grenadians have sufficient intelligence to see through Bishop and his men and will do whatever they can to secure their removal from office.

Corrupt people soon lose what they gain and we say DOWN WITH BISHOP'S REVOLUTIONARY REGIME.

We ask that Grenadians abroad show their disgust by organising demonstrations etc against Bishop's illegal regime and speak out for human rights and freedoms now denied their countrymen at home.

We ask Grenadians, however much they may have sympathized with Bishop in the past, to denounce him as a traitor and unfit to govern Grenada. His regime is not a government and it is insane. Therefore, Grenadians should now decide that it is better to get rid of them quickly, get a stable democratic government - any democratic government - that will enjoy popular support.

We ask the international press, churches, Human Rights group, etc to continue to speak out against Bishop's illegal acts and we ask the Caribbean democratic Governments, Britain, U.S.A., Canada, etc not to underestimate the situation in Grenada, to keep a watchful eye on it and be ready to take appropriate action at any time. And we further ask that Bishop and his group be banned throughout the Caribbean because of their expressed desire to give Castro and Russia a foothold in the Caribbean.

We ask every Grenadian and every friend of Grenada to pray for the removal from power of Bishop and his gang so that Grenada will be spared from becoming a Communist country. And we appeal to the Cubans to get out of Grenada.

To them we say:

CUBANS GET OUT OF GRENADA, DISMANTLE YOUR BASES, TAKE BACK YOUR ARMS AND AMMUNITION AND LET GRENADIANS GET BACK THE JOBS YOU ARE TAKING AWAY FROM THEM. YOU ARE NOT WELCOME 1N GRENADA AND OTHER CARIBBEAN ISLANDS, SO GET OUT OF GRENADA AND IF POSSIBLE TAKE YOUR FRIENDS BISHOP AND HIS GANG TO CUBA WITH YOU.

With the charges against Bishop and his gang, we are sure that no honest Grenadian could continue to support such a regime, although we feel that some, who openly voiced their support are now changing their' tune, but are afraid to declare themselves publicly.

We urge everyone, especially Grenadians, to think of all the wickedness Bishop's regime is doing to their country and countrymen and condemn them, and in order for as many Grenadians as possible to be aware of their brutal acts, we say in our slang, "Ca qui taut, parlez l'autres" - which means "what you hear, tell others".

YOU HAVE THE PROOF GRENADIANS SO MAKE YOUR PLAY. FORGET WHAT BISHOP'S PEOPLE SAY AND WRITE - ALL LIES - AND SPEAK OUT LOUD AND CLEAR AGAINST BISHOP'S REVOLUTIONARY COMMUNIST REGIME. GAIRY HAD HIS FAULTS BUT IS A SAINT COMPARED TO BISHOP. GOD WORKS IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS AND BISHOP BY HIS STUPIDITY HAS PUT GAIRY THE GODLY MAN ON A PINNACLE AND HAS DONE HIM A BIG BIG FAVOUR BY GETTING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE NOW TO FAVOUR AND PREFER HIM THAN EVER BEFORE.
